The telecast was hosted by pop-siren Willa Ford and Chris Kirkpatrick, of the chart-topping recording group Nsync. The Miss Teen USA 2002 competition opened with a cutting-edge introduction of the 51 delegates vying for the coveted Miss Teen USA title. The telecast panel was comprised of Nick Cannon, from Nickelodeon’s "The Nick Cannon Show," Chris Beckman, of MTV’S, "The Real World, Chicago", Samm Levine, Actor, NBC’s Freaks and Geeks," Educator, Ben Wentworth III, Singer/Songwriter Cyndi Thomson, Jordi Vilasuso, Actor, "Guiding Light," Paige Mycoskie, of CBS’s Amazing Race 2, and Ashley Coleman, Miss Teen USA 1999.
Throughout the two-hour event, the delegates competed in three categories, including swimsuit, evening gown and interview. She also said that if she were going to be on "Survivor," she would bring Saran Wrap as her luxury item.
"Saran Wrap can be wrapped around trees to make shelter from the rain, wrapped around the body to keep warm, wrapped around food to keep it fresh, used to transport water from one place to another, melted and sharpened to make weapons for hunting," she said. "The possibilities are endless!"
The Wisconsin state pageant was the first pageant that Semrow had ever taken part in. "When I received the entry information in the mail, it sounded like a lot of fun," she said. "It was something that I had never tried before. I love challenges and new experiences and decided to go for it! Never before have I had so much fun! I made new friends, received valuable prizes, and now have the opportunity of a lifetime...the chance to compete in the Miss Teen USA Pageant!"
As it turns out, she not only competed in the pageant but she won it. She says that in her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and "doing what all teen girls love to do... going to the movies, talking on the phone, and shopping."
Semrow is a junior in high school and is currently home schooled.
